Mount K2, the second-highest peak in the world after Mount Everest (8848 m.), stands at an elevation of 8611 m above sea level. Mount K2 is the highest point of the Karakoram Range in the northwestern site. According to article K2, Mount K2 is located on the border of China and Pakistan between Galigit and Baltistan region of northern Pakistan and Xinjiang, northwest China. The name K2 is given because of the peak standing in the Karakoram Range, and it is the second-highest peak in the world. Thus, K represents the Karakoram range and 2 represents the second.
